I had done Rescue Mission events before and loved them. It is wonderful to see people smile and know that in some way I helped cheer them up just by doing a simple act, like bagging green beans. I also enjoyed working with the Interact group and getting to know them better. I find inspiration from kids younger than I am who are willing to volunteer. Working with We Care is nice and I plan on helping them out in the future, maybe with a book drive or volunteering with the food distribution again. |

I wanted to help out with this event because it was a way to give to some people in the community what they truly wanted and needed at Christmas time. Christmas can be a difficult time of year and just doing this simple act of kindness was really rewarding. It was also a great way to build the friendships and teamwork of the group. Participating in Operation Santa Claus really inspired me to give more back to and better understand this community. |

I volunteered the day that the families went to Disneyland. I was inspired to help out that day because these were families who had lost someone to the Iraq war and the holidays must be a difficult time of year for them. I was paired with two young moms, who had met through the organization, and there 3 toddlers and spent 12 hours running around Disneyland. It was really rewarding to just lend an extra hand and be there for them, even though it was a long day. I think this service really helped me give more during the holidays and really be more compassionate towards others during hard times. http://www.snowballexpress.org/ |
